This was the year for engagements. From Ciara and Future to Kim and Kanye, so many celebs have popped the question. No matter the details, there is something we can learn from each of these proposals.
Pick the perfect ring. Make sure you keep your eyes and ears open for hints about the kind of ring that your fiancĂ©e-hopeful will like. Consider size, metal, and stone types. Use the professionals at the jeweler to discuss your girlfriend’s personality and personal style. A good jeweler will take those things into consideration when helping you to design the ring.
When Future planned to propose to Ciara, he turned to celebrity jeweler Avianne & Co., to design the 15-carat stunner. The jeweler reported that Future was involved in the whole process of helping design the ring and he didn’t miss a beat! He had a very strict deadline and wanted to have the ring ready for October 25…just in time to pop the question on the singer’s birthday.
There are various levels to this. If there’s anything we can’t get enough of, it’s over-the-top marriage proposals and we’ve seen quite a few this year. Who can forget Kanye’s ballpark proposal to Kim Kardashian? Yeezus cleared out the San Francisco AT&T Park for Kim’s birthday with the help of a 50-piece orchestra and a Jumbotron that read “PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!!!” He got down on one knee and popped the question.
As much as I love these stories, I realize that these outrageous proposals are not for everyone. Some couples prefer the romantic simplicity of being alone in a special place or choose the middle of the road proposal at a family gathering in the company of family and friends. Whether you go over the top, middle of the road or small and intimate, consider your mate’s personality. If your significant other is shy, a proposal during halftime at the game will not be a good idea.
Seek help. Solicit the help of your best friend or favorite cousin, but make sure that your assistant won’t let the cat out of the bag. If good help is truly hard to find, there are professionals that are available for a fee. Proposal planners promise to help plot a scenario and assist in the execution. This is a great option for couples who live far away from family and close friends.
Just last week, onlookers were surprised at the Chicago Bulls game when a dance routine was interrupted in the third quarter performance by a well executed proposal. There’s no way this guy pulled this off alone. Check it out for yourself.
Practice, practice, practice. Ryan Leak, now named the Best Groom ever, confesses that he practiced his proposal for months and even then he still felt unprepared. Take some cues from the guy who secretly planned his wedding on the same day that he proposed—with more than a little help from Pinterest.
Write down what you’re going to say and practice. Your proposal is a big deal. Don’t be surprised if you become nervous. Now don’t take the paper with you and read it when you propose! Rehearse your lines so that when all your nerves are on edge you will have some general idea of what to say.
What is the one thing that our memorable proposals have in common? All of the men popped the question on bended knee. No matter how funky, eccentric, or quirky your proposal, plan to drop down on one knee. It’s a classic moment that no woman forgets.
