How To Choose Your Best Colors For Wardrobe And Makeup

Wanna look your best, save time and money, and with not much effort? Well you can when you pull out your best colors and rock them fiercely. *Tyra smize*
Back in the 80s, having your colors done was a big thing (along with big hair, big shoulder pads, and big ole contoured cheeks). Though styles have changed drastically since then (thankfully) the color theories can still apply today.
Now—why would you want to know what your colors are?
Well, wearing the right colors can help you appear more vibrant, alert, and even younger. The wrong colors can make you appear sickly, older, and can wear you instead of you wearing it.

I’ve put together a crash course on color to assist you with choosing great colors for your own coloring.
Colors have many different characteristics. Because of this anyone can wear any color/hue based on their own characterstics and those of the color.
Color characteristics:
Hue: the color name (i.e. blue, yellow, red, green, etc.)
Intensity: how bright or muted a color is
Tone: how light or dark a color is
Temperature: how warm, cool, or neutral a color is
More on temperature…
You’ll know you’re warm toned if: you have a yellow or golden undertone to your skin, your eyes are golden brown or green (or have gold flecks), your veins are green, or you look better in gold than silver.
You’ll know you’re cool toned if: you have a pink or blue undertone to your skin, your eyes are dark brown or blue, your veins are green, or you look better in silver than gold.
You’ll know you’re neutral if: you have neither apparent warm nor cool undertones or you look good in both silver or gold.
Note that undertone has nothing to do with skin tone. Being light or dark skin does not automatically dictate undertone.

We also have color characteristics naturally (in our undertones, hair color, eye color) that help decide which colors look best on us. Anyone can wear any hue, it just has to be the right temperature, intensity, and tone.
Luckily there are also color groupings called seasons that give us a guide as to which colors look best on us. They are:
Winter: your coloring is cool and clear (meaning there’s a high level of contrast between your skin tone and hair color). Look for vivid or icy tones like pure white, navy, emerald green, deep hot pink, true red, bright burgundy, royal blue, charcoal gray, black. Accessorize with silver or platinum.
Celeb examples: Kelly Rowland, Alex Wek, Salma Hayek, Cassie

Summer: your coloring is cool and muted (meaning there’s a low level of contrast between your skin tone and hair color). Look for cool, soft colors, like most blues (including periwinkle, blue-gray and navy), off-white, rosy beige, brown, lavender or pastel pink (with blue undertones). Accessorize with silver, very pale gold or pearls.
Celeb examples: Vanessa Williams, Amber Rose

Spring: your coloring is warm and clear. Look for clear, delicate and bright hues, like creamy beiges, light royal blue, peachy or bright warm pinks, turquoise or aqua, pastel green, golden brown or medium purple. Accessorize with gold or pearls.
Celeb examples: Jada Pinkett Smith, Kerry Washington, Alicia Keys

Autumn: your coloring is warm and muted. Look for strong shades with warm undertones, like camel, dark tomato red, forest or olive green, all oranges, coffee or chocolate brown, teal blue. Accessorize with gold.
Celeb examples: Beyonce, Queen Latifah, Serena Williams

Contrast has to do with the difference in color between your hair and skin. You have a high levelof contrast if your hair color is much darker than your skin tone. You have a low level of contrast if your hair color is about the same color as your skin tone.
Check out some color swatches based on seasons:

These color theories work for both wardrobe and makeup. Now that you know what your best colors are, take a refresher on The Color Wheel: How to Combine Colors in Your Wardrobe.
It’s safe to go outside your color box and wear something that doesn’t go with your coloring if you wear the item away from your face. For example, if hot pink is not a color that works with your coloring, avoid the hue in a tank top, but you can pull it off as a skirt.
And there you go—a quick guide on how to choose your best colors.

Reasons why you should never go back to your EX

1: He’s not going to change
Men are creatures of habit. They like routine, they appreciate things staying the same, and they know their comfort zones.Sure, you might have dated the rebel. Your ex might have been that spur of the moment man who had this wild way of making everything new and fantastic!Did you ever notice how he always had a ham sandwich and beer for lunch? Maybe he freaked out that time you bought him the wrong shampoo? Whatever the case may be, men are who they are.

If you have a good one, he will always be a good one and if you have a bad one…well, he’ll always be bad.Don’t sleep with him when he says, “But, baby, things will be different this time!” because they won’t. I promise you that.

#2: You (should) have moved on
Did you eat three pints of ice-cream for nothing?! No, you didn’t. You ate all those lovely fattening calories in order to get rid of your emotions and move past him. You did that and survived.

Taking him back means you are back to square one with this guy and as much as you might say “No, he’s changed!” (see reason number five, please), or “I’ll be much smarter this time!” the truth is you won’t.Go listen to Gloria Gaynor’s “I will survive”, hit repeat as often as you need to remind yourself of all the tears you shed over this guy who doesn’t deserve you.

#3: He’ll think you’re back together
I dated this guy a while back who was very arrogant. When we broke up, I fell right back into bed with him . I thought it would be a one night stand. He thought we were back together. In fact, he began to come over way too often for my comfort level.I got sucked back into a relationship with him without even realizing it and had to go through the motions of breaking up with him yet again. Ladies, don’t fall for it.

#4: You’re missing out on future potentials
While I was being sucked into the relationship with the Ex from Hell (someone I should not have slept with again), I missed out on quite a few potentially nice guys.I was too busy trying to figure out my pseudo-relationship with my supposed ex to move forward and find a guy that was good for me.I know this one seems like a no-brainer, but trust me, you will be missing out on something great if you go back to sleeping with someone wrong.

#5: Going from “Lover” to “Bo.oty call” is a downgrade
Let me tell you about my last little plaything. He and I were lovers. Now, the reality of it was a lot different than the idea of it, but for the sake of time this is how it was… we hung out, we had , we had fun, and we had no strings attached, but we were exclusive. It was a lover’s agreement.

Somewhere along the line this became too much for him to handle. Seeing each other twice a week for dinner or a movie and  was too “relationship-like” for this guy. He told me he didn’t want to feel “obligated”.

So, I naturally ended it. I mean, being single and celibate is always better than being someone’s “obligation”. A few weeks later he called me for .. Said we should be each other’s booty call and that it would work both ways… whenever he was available.I really wish I was making that up.What was my reply? I said going from lover to booty call sounds like a downgrade to me.

No woman in her right mind should ever sleep with a guy who calls her an obligation, downgrades her from lover, and then asks to see her at his convenience, no matter how good the is!Let me tell you that in this case, his booty call is just him using you because he can. It’s being lovers without dinner first. I even tested him and tried to give him a booty call after his suggestion, and, just as I’d suspected, he said “I’m too busy tonight.” He was also too busy two nights later.

Ladies, there are plenty of men who will treat you right (or at least treat you with some manners before you have a night of fun with them) so don’t go back to the jerk who broke your heart and left you weeping in your dessert.Don’t sleep with him again, it’s too easy to find yourself a new guy for that. Never sleep with someone who doesn’t deserve you, and trust me, if he’s an ex…he doesn’t deserve you.

Child ambassador Zuriel Oduwole is Africa's most influential 11yr old

You read about her here a few weeks ago. The remarkable 11 year old Nigerian girl has been named one of the most influential young people in Africa. (Zuriel Oduwole pictured above with Jamaican Prime Minister - Portia Simpson Miller)

Her journey began about a year and a half ago, when this relatively quiet and unknown young ‘pre-teen’ girl, proudly Nigerian, but a true Pan-African child with parents from both Nigeria and Mauritius, began with a simple mission – to show the rest of the world that African leaders are capable of solving their own problems, such as managing a successful economic and social turnaround. Continue...

She was 9 years old back then, when she embarked on this mission, first to interview the enigmatic President Jerry [John] Rawlings of Ghana for her school assignment on documenting a successful revolution anywhere in the world, on film format. In the process of her research, she found out about the challenges of Girl education and the obstacles to girl child development, in Africa. She then followed this trend on global news program, specifically on BBC.

Her mission immediately changed. She made it a cause to learn more about the challenges of the Girl Child in Africa, but also try to find a simple solution, one as understood by a 9 year old.
By age 10, she had focused more on meeting with and talking to African political and business leaders about the need to fight for educating the African Girl child, which she saw as an investment in Africa. She asked them for a commitment in their respective countries to doing more to change the perception of Girls education,in some cases from an afterthought, to a primary focus.

She was subsequently interviewed for a full feature by Forbes Magazine making her the youngest person in the world to be accorded this privilege, in recognition of her accomplishments. By age 11, she had been received in formal audience with [9] African Presidents and heads of state, all of whom are still in office today. This is an amazing feat by any measure, considering the work and effort it takes to schedule such meetings across Africa’s multi-lingual international language barriers of English, Portuguese, and French. She has also unfortunately fallen into the category of those who miss high profile meetings, in this instance apre-arrangedinterview with a current African President, but for good reason; - because of conflicting schedules with her school work.
Zuriel’smany interviews in front of her camera covers varying subjects andissues of education, health, and even the Millennium Development goals, on which shemade the subject of a documentary.  Her interviewees have included the Presidents ofkey African economies such asKenya, Nigeria and Tanzania, as well as those of South Sudan, Liberia, Cape Verde andMalawi.

Recently in October this year, she was invited to Tanzania, and bestowed with an honoraryAmbassador title for the largest foundation in East Africa by the First Lady, Mrs. Salma Kikwete. This was in recognition of her advocacy work for the Girl child. A new computer Lab in the country’s oldest school was also dedicated, opened, and named after Zuriel during her visit.

In between, she stopped by the annual Clinton Global Initiative in New York last September, and also had a one-on-one interview with America’s most celebrated civil rights leader – Reverend Jesse Jackson. On the side of the September 2013 UN General Assembly, she met with and interviewed the head of the Danish Delegation, to find out how DANIDA [Denmark’s overseas development unit] impacts and helps women and girls, across Africa.

Despite all these great strides, Zuriel Oduwole, who has been featured in international news broadcasts, graced the cover of national magazines, andmade several international and regional publication features, has kept her sights firmly on continuing to do [2] simple things that seem to define her immediate goal. These are making the case for educating and inspiring the African Girl child through her Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand Up program, now launched inNigeria, Malawi and Tanzania. The second isshowing the world the positive things about Africa, through her compelling ‘world class and award winning documentaries’, [some featuring her interviews with Africa’s leaders], which she writes, directs, and co-produces. Essentially, she is RebrandingAfrica.
The Caribbean Region – Her Next Stop
She has now turned her focus away from African leaders towards the America’s, at least momentarily, while keeping Girls Inspirationissues central in subject. Zuriel has just met with the leader of the largest island country in the Caribbean and the only female head of governmentin the CARICOM region, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Millerof Jamaica. The Prime Ministerin an intimate and detailed interview was dazzled by Zuriel’s questions, impressed by her poise, and so overwhelmed by her ability to focus on issuesat such high level that she herself broke with protocol. ‘She hugged, kissed, prayed for, and then carried her on the lap’ for the formal photograph before the press, after the interview.
“She is our brilliant child from Africa”, she declared!
Issues discussed during the interview covered the emerging dominance of Jamaica in World athletics, including the phenomenon known as “Lightning Bolt” [Usain Bolt], the Girl Child in Jamaica, Tourism in the country, and the Prime Minsters role in encouraging Girls within the fifteen country Caribbean Community [CARICOM] region to aim for higher leadership positions. While she plans to meet with Usain Bolt in a future interview schedule, there are already confirmed meetings and interviews, with other Prime Ministers, in the Caribbean region.
They want to tell their stories of growth & development intimately and exclusively, through Zuriel.
It all makes this remarkable young Nigerianarguably the most powerful and influential 11 year old in the world today, and sheis African. She just might be building her way to accomplishing her long term dream of becoming the President of the greatest union in the world – the United States of America, just as another African has done currently. Soperhaps, she can help Africa and the Caribbean region even further, as she has so eloquently puts it in her many interviews.

11yr old Zuriel Oduwole appointed ambassador by Tanzanian 1st lady

Africa's child ambassador, eleven year old Zuriel Oduwole, the Nigerian girl making the global case for educating the continents Girl Child and in the process, re-branding Africa, has been appointed an ambassador by Tanzania's First Lady. Zuriel was in the country last week - which was her second county stop on her East African leg to launch the acclaimed Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand Up project aimed at inspiring/encouraging African girls.

On October 11th, Zuriel was in Dar Es Salaam to the attend the United Nations UNFPA event which focused on reducing the incidence of child marriage in Tanzania. After speaking at the event, she was formally invited to the office of the first lady Mrs Selma Kikwete (Zuriel pictured with the first lady above). Mrs Kikwete commended Zuriel for her leadership at such a young age, she also commended her for bringing issues of girl's education to several African leaders, then the first lady formally appointed Zuriel an ambassador for the largest foundation focused on gender issue - Wanawake na Maendeleo Foundation (WAMA) of which she's the founding patron.

Zuriel was presented with an intricate 3 foot statue of unity, the same type presented to the US president, to symbolize the effect of Zuriel's in the lives of Africa's young women. #BeInspired.
